25/09/2003 - first tries
This page has no intentions. It's fully linked to the work of one of my friend (at http://www.vbone.net) who puts pages about his work on … tuning his home's network. So I decided to do the same, with the objective to get traces of what've done 'till now.
My Athlon 1400 ! In fact, right now, I do not own it anymore. I've just sold it. The buyer told me it was to try a linux as DHCP server ... Get yourself an opinion : a 1400 with 256 MB, an Adaptec U2W SCSI card, an ATI Pro card with TV OUT, an IDE DVD (without zone limitations), a CD Burner and an audio capable motherboard ... I'd rather made a DivX box, but ...
For those who wonders what's these strange frontside device is for, it has two means. The device upside was taken from an old AT PC Case in order to have one button to turn off the hard disk's cooling fans (which are really noisy) and a led for the SCSI card (because I also use IDE disks). Sorry for the dust, it was glued ... Too many oil when I cook ?
An ASUS Geforce 4 Ti 4200 with 128MB of video ram. In fact, the little fan you've seen up there was the worse idea they ever had. Not because a GPU shouldn't ever had replaced a CPU, but because when I unscrew it, this things was filled with dust. Quite Normal for one of my PC, but I still wonder how much time it could have last ...
Future, and beyond ! Like I said, I've just sold my PC. So, because of the heat pipe, I need to get a fresh new one which will not be a barebone. Furthermore, I already own the case. Funny how they now love colors and still sell them at regular price (50.50 € instead of the 47 € for the first one I ever bought)
